  1. Revise the concept of identifying the initial sound in words and its importance in helping us to solve unknown words.

  2. Say a few words to the class and ask students to identify the first sound. For example s/ock, f/ish, c/at, etc. Display the same words for students to see and model isolating the first sound in the word.
