A Place For Setting
This mini-unit explores the concept of ‘setting’ using the text Blueback by Tim Winton. Throughout the unit, students explore different settings in a range of books and make links between setting and genre. In addition, they will work together, using the book Blueback as evidence to map out the setting on butcher’s paper, before looking at how the author uses simile and metaphor to create a scene. Students are then given an opportunity to create their own setting using the same techniques by writing a descriptive paragraph.
