CVC Words

Consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words are essential to introducing our newest readers and writers to the magic that happens when you put sounds together - creating words! This unit is full of action packed, hands-on and explicit lessons that systematically explores CVC words in a fun and engaging way. Students will begin by distinguishing between consonants and vowels and exploring the recipe for creating a CVC word. They will also engage with heavily scaffolded lessons focused on each short vowel sound, and their corresponding word families to read and write CVC words. Finally, students will engage with phonemic manipulation: addition, deletion and substitution. Once your students have mastered CVC words and phoneme manipulation, their confidence in reading and writing will soar!
