Draw, Talk, Write, Share

This mini unit will explicitly introduce students to a writing strategy called ‘Draw, Talk, Write, Share’. It teaches emergent writers how to move from ideas (draw) to spoken word (talk) to print (write). This unit will enable all students to be successful and assist them in creating more complex texts, through the use of multiple modes, in the planning process. This unit demonstrates how this strategy can be used in a progressively more challenging way - from lots of scaffolding and teacher assistance to more independence. It is important that the more scaffolded lessons are retaught multiple times before removing some levels of support. It would be beneficial to consistently reflect on the ability of your learners, before moving to the more challenging lessons.
