Exploring Persuasion - Why I Love Footy

Do your students love sports? Well this unit is for you! Take a deep dive into the Australian Football League, and persuasive texts through the engaging story ‘Why I Love Footy’. Students make connections with the text, unpack the structure of a persuasive text and uncover the importance of descriptive vocabulary using the writing technique ‘show, don’t tell’. They identify, interpret and share facts and statistics in relation to AFL players and teams, and explore the persuasive imagery and language used in Football Club membership campaigns (advertisements). Students apply their knowledge to create persuasive Footy Cards, detailing why they would be a great addition to their chosen club/sports team. Some of the lessons might need to be completed over a couple of lessons to give students the time to produce their best work! They will love this unit!
