Splendid Sentences

This mini unit will provide students in 1-3 with a range of opportunities to focus on enhancing their writing at the sentence level. Explicit teaching around a range of engaging sentence structures will support students to better understand parts of speech and grammar. Some of these sentence types have been inspired by the work of Alan Peat. While these lessons have been designed to be taught in a sequence, they can also be delivered as stand alone sessions, and can be tailored to teach both fiction and nonfiction writing pieces.
