What is a Hybrid Text?

This mini-unit looks at the concept of a hybrid text - a text that interweaves a narrative storyline with factual information on a given topic. It uses the book ‘Koala’ by Claire Saxby and Julie Vivas to step students through the process of familiarising themselves with hybrid texts and writing and publishing their own. There is a focus throughout the series of lessons on how the two styles of texts work together to both inform and entertain the reader. These lessons can also be completed as stand alone lessons introducing the concepts of a hybrid text and may be used with another text of choice.
